Carlsbad

Carlsbad CavernsLocated on the beautiful Pecos River, Carlsbad offers hiking, golfing, river recreation and lots of sunshine! Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the Guadalupe Mountains National Park are nearby. The Caverns, a World Heritage Site, is one of the largest networks of caves in the world. See bat flights daily at dusk from May through mid October. Carlsbad also boasts the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park, featuring flora and fauna of the Chihuahuan Desert. Living Desert is the only zoo in the United States to house the endangered Bolson tortoises, the largest tortoise species found in North America. The Pecos River winds through Carlsbad, offering a four-mile river walk with ample opportunities for picnicking, swimming and boating. In December you can take a boat trip on the river to see sparkling holiday decorations during the annual Christmas on the Pecos celebration. Twelve miles north of town lies Brantley Lake State Park, a 2,800-acre lake popular with both boating and fishing enthusiasts. Great schools, low crime and a friendly, small-town atmosphere also make Carlsbad a great place to live!
