Angel Fire
The area provides great outdoor family activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, golf, and tennis during our mild summer days. Summer's average daytime highs are in the mid-70s to lows in the 40s with low humidity. Fall is golden, brisk, and dry offering some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.
During the winters, fantastic snow skiing is literally minutes from your doorstep. Winter temperatures average lower-30's daytime to mid-teens in early morning. The average snowfall is 210" annually with snow typically on the ground at Halloween. Being a mountain community, don't be surprised to see snowfall on Memorial Day Weekend too!
The majority of residents are employed locally and are in the tourism industry. The primary employer is Angel Fire Resort which offers summer and winter employment. Being a tourist destination brings thousands of visitors to this quiet town during the winter months. Summer, however, provides a more relaxed pace of vacationers simply enjoying the cool, fresh air and the wonderful smell of pine trees. Being a relatively young town, Angel Fire is not without its growing pains. There is an increasing number of people making Angel Fire their full-time residence. As a result the Village of Angel Fire has taken over the Village sewer and water system, They are working right now on expanding the system. There is a new community center which was completed during the Summer 98 (ask for directions - it's not on a main road). Several new office complexes have been built in the last 3 years.
Most building activity prior to the 90s was for vacation homes. The increasing number of families moving to the area with children are presenting new challenges for our community. Elementary and Middle School children attend Eagle Nest Elementary/Middle School which involves an average 30 minute bus ride. Children in high school attend Cimarron High, which is an hour bus ride. A volunteer organization is working on building public schools in Angel Fire with land donated from Angel Fire Resort.
