Are you a talented young writer looking for experience in the magazine field?
New Mexico Magazine wants you!
Editorial Internship Overview:
New Mexico Magazine offers an editorial internship in the spring, summer, and fall. As an intern, you'll be viewed as a professional in training and be given meaningful tasks that will prepare you for your journalism career. Duties may include fact-checking articles, providing background research on future articles, reporting for sidebars and other briefs, and providing general assistance to the editors. You can expect to publish four to six clips in the magazine’s print edition and/or on our Web site, www.nmmagazine.com. (Please note: These clips may be published after your internship is complete due to the magazine’s editorial lead time.)
As a fall or spring semester intern, you’ll be expected to work 12-16 hours per week. Eight hours of this time must be completed in the magazine’s Santa Fe offices. The remaining time may be completed at the student’s home in consultation with the magazine’s editors.
As a summer intern, you’ll be expected to work 40 hours per week in our Santa Fe offices.
Internships are unpaid and are offered for academic credit.
Whom we're looking for:
The more experience you have in print journalism, the better. The best candidates will have writing
and editing experience, either through previous jobs or internships, university courses, and/or work on
school publications. But more than anything, we’re looking for go-getters who are eager to learn and
create great content for our publication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to work
independently are required. Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of travel and New Mexico are a
plus.
Ideal applicants will be declared Communication and/or Journalism majors who have completed the
introductory coursework in their chosen major. If you attend a liberal arts institution, you may still
apply if you have writing experience through a campus publication, or previous job or internship.
Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA, though preference will be given to students who have
demonstrated academic excellence that exceeds this minimum requirement.
Application Process:
